CLEANING

There are a variety of methods and types of carpet and upholstery cleaning in our industry. Each have their own benefits and drawbacks.

Here are the most popular types, along with their corresponding pros and cons.

Steam Cleaning

A wet type of cleaning, otherwise known as hot water extraction, is our preferred method of cleaning carpets. This approach results in a deeper reach within the fibers of the most common manufactured materials.

Upon applying reactive detergents, hot water is pressure injected and immediately vacuumed in a combined process. This method is considered an industry recommended application as the best way to clean and deodorize carpets.

Pros:

  • Hot water acts as an additional activating agent that breaks down and loosens hard compacted soils and debris.

  • Allows the cleaning detergents to reach maximum penetration.

  • Provides the deepest and longest lasting type of clean.

  • Gets out soiling from deep down within the carpet.

Cons:

  • Takes the longest (3-5 hours) to dry, but offers the most effective outcome.

Dry Cleaning

As most homeowners question, it sounds like an ineffective way to clean. Dry carpet cleaning methods do have their place, but for most circumstances, we don’t recommend it.

This application is performed with a solvent mixed powder and chemical that looks like sawdust. It’s designed to soak up and essentially absorb the dirt from within the carpet’s fibers.

This method of waterless carpet cleaning is delivered with a machine that brushes it into the material being cleansed. Once it’s set up after a short while, it’s then vacuumed up with any caught debris.

Pros:

  • Uses little to no water.

Cons:

  • What appears clean only lasts a short span. The real dirt resurfaces usually within a few days.

  • Can create a dusty atmosphere within your home.

  • Doesn’t reach deep down where the real dirt is composed.

Foam Cleaning

Another type of cleaning method for upholstery is foam cleaning. This application is performed by spraying a specialized detergent onto the material. Once applied, it’s then activated within the surface by means of tools or brushing wands that create the foam.

Once the foam is activated, it’s purpose is to catch the debris and dirt from within the fibers. Once caught, the carpet is then vacuumed while removing the foreign substances.

Pros:

  • Cost of operation to perform is often less than more competent methods of cleaning.

  • Fast drying times.

Cons:

  • Lack of thorough cleaning penetration.

"As the final project after some remodeling work, Mr. Power Clean was contracted to clean our carpet. Brittany and George could not have been more courteous and polite. Worked as a team and did an excellent job! Would recommend highly."

As you can see from the image below, the condition of this carpet was greatly impacted by foot traffic that had oils transferred from the asphalt parking lot into the classroom.

pre-treatment

Pre-treating the carpets is a method we implemented to break down the dirt and material that was lodged within the fibers.

debris in carpet

Next, we used a scrub brush to break up the material within the carpet’s fibers. As you can see, this also captured debris that was packed into the carpet’s surface.

steaming

After we prepped the carpet, we started our steam cleaning process.

All of the projects we perform are implemented with care. On this project, we used respectful measures to ensure the property was left in its original condition.

Here’s a couple of these measures we made sure to follow.

  • Wearing shoe covers.

  • Protecting entryways with covers
